Sunset over Washington Street Cork

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

Cork City has some really cool sunsets. Luckily I had a camera handy for this great November sun closing down over Washington Street on the intersection with Grand Parade, over the Wholy Grain and next to Café Gusto.

Walking down Cornmarket Street in Cork City, I spotted this gem opposite the Garda Station. It’s great to find unique buildings like this remaining intact and in such good condition. The form of the disused public toilet is characteristic of its era, as is the attached/craved typography, which is a particular interest to us. Typography is a very important element of graphic design and this building shows us designers from its era paid particularly good attention to it.

Happy Birthday Dad!

Monday, November 9th, 2009

Happy Birthday to my Dad, Pat O’Gorman who celebrated his 70th on November 9th! I got him a Fuji Film digital camera for his birthday so I’ll post some of his shots in the coming months. As my dad has always said “you’re never too old to learn”. We’ll see if he is true to his word!

Here’s a photo I took of him this summer as he rested while looking out of the living room window. It might not quite live up to my old boss Frank Fernandez or Nadav Kander standards but I’ll work on it for his 71st!

Out for a walk the other day and saw this old building which I had to explore, I found these old stone steps leading up to the light especially cool.

I saw this sign while helping a neighbour find his lost dog and had to photograph the sign. We didn’t find the dog or the shop on the sign but eventually the dog did turn up later that night.
